You have the opportunity to participate in a unique event that affects women locally and around the world. Birth On Labor Day (BOLD) is a global initiative to make maternity care mother-friendly. During the month of September, Karen Brody’s hit play, Birth, will be performed in  locations throughout the United States, Canada and the world!

Each performance will have a BOLD Talkback afterwards that educates and engages the audience about local birthing issues.

BOLD uses the art of storytelling to inspire communities to educate themselves, speak their truth, and take action on maternity care issues. This grassroots event is an awareness-raising and fundraising opportunity for organizations and individuals to support mother-initiated dialogue and solutions to today’s maternity care problems.

In the United States today, the rate of cesarean sections is 30.2 percent, more than 15 percent higher than the World Health Organization’s recommended figure for industrialized countries. Only 2 percent of mothers in the U.S. receive care practices that promote normal birth and are endorsed by Lamaze International. The experiences of our wives, sisters, and daughters are reflected in these numbers and in the play, Birth.

You can support this important BOLD movement right here in the Central Valley. We are one of the few venues in California this year. Help us keep Fresno on the map!

Our production of Birth will take place the last weekend in September at the beautiful Tower Theatre in Fresno on September 28^th  for 2 shows. After each performance of Birth there will be a BOLD Talkback, giving audience members the opportunity to discuss the play, their reactions, and their feelings about birth with local panelists from the community.
