Recommended Reading

This list is not meant to be an extensive reading list. It is a list of our favorites to get you started. We encourage you to read and educate yourself as much as possible. We believe the best way to prepare for a natural pregnancy and birth is through education and ownership of the responsibility of yourself, and your baby. If you read no other books I consider the first three to be a must read.

This book has quickly become everyones favorite. It is full of up to date information on pregnancy interventions and procedures. Additonally it holds story after story on women who gave birth naturally.

Everything you need to learn about your options in childbirth and to develope your own personal birth plan. There are always choices in childbirth and this book is an excellent source of those choices and how to negotiate them.

Silent Knife : Cesarean Prevention and Vaginal Birth after Cesarean (VBAC)

This book was never on my top three in the past but it is now. The reason being is that you are in more danger of an unnecessary cesarean than ever before. Consider this your "bible" of cesarean prevention.

Childbirth without Fear : The Principles and Practice of Natural Childbirth

This book is an old one, but is for anyone interested in the history of natural childbirth principals. Dr. Grantly Dick-Read is the father of natural childbirth.

A comprehensive book covering pregnancy, birth, and care of the newborn. Written by the editor of Mothering magazine. This is a great book to get started on the concept of natural childbirth.
